16 Stingrays competed in the 2015 EOSA Short Course Championships held in Belleville. Top Stingray was Thomas MacMillan. Thomas won the high point award for 12 year-old boys by winning the 200 & 400 IM and the 100 & 200 butterfly as well as placing 2nd in 200 free and 3rd in 100 & 200 back. Thomas set a new club record in 400 IM with a time of 5:35.43. Other medalists and record-breakers were: Olivia Ellard – 2nd in 400 & 800 free (both in record breaking times 4:26.16 & 9:15.28) and 3rd in 50 free and 400 IM; Andrew Machan – 1st in 50 & 800 free (in record time 10:17.16), 2nd in 100 free and third in 200 free; Lauren Miller – 3rd in 400 IM; Megan Wheeler – 1st in 100 breast, 2nd in 50 breast & 100 butterfly and 3rd in the 12 & under 400 IM and
Courtney Wren – 2nd in 800 free and 3rd in 200 butterfly. Andrew and David Machan, Megan Wheeler and Thomas MacMillan all qualified for the 2015 Ontario Winter Festival with their swims, Andrew in the 200 & 800 free, David in 200 back, Megan in 100 & 200 breast and 400 IM and Thomas in 100 & 200 back, 100 & 200 fly, 200 & 400 IM and 200 free. The team impressed with their toughness down the stretch and their spirit. The team dinners were great too!
2015 CPWD Mid Winter Melt
13 Stingrays took part in the 2015 CPWD Mid-Winter Melt. Top Stingray was Ben Perkins with 4 1st place and 1 2nd place finishes. Other event winners included Luke Allan (3), Grace Barnabe (1), Hilary Fournier (1), Camryn Hollywood (1), Allina Warwick (1) and Makenna Warwick (1). Top 5 swim s were done by Laura Barnabe, Reegan Bell, Justyn Hollywood, Raija McTavish and Zoe Strachan.
Speedo Eastern Canadians – February 19 – 22, 2015 – Québec City
Bailey Andison and Olivia Ellard attended the 2015 Speedo Eastern Canadian Long Course Open. Bailey impressed with two silver medal swims in 50 breast and 200 IM. Bailey set new Stingrays’ records in 50 free, 50, 100 & 200 breast and 200 IM. Olivia placed 6th in 50 back, 4th in 100 back (new club record – 1:04.19) and 5th in 200 back (new club record – 2:18.33). Both swimmers performances qualified them for the upcoming 2015 Canadian Trials in April.
Ontario Winter Festival – February 21 – 22, 2015 – Etobicoke
Andrew Machan, David Machan, Thomas MacMillan and Megan Wheeler competed in the 2015 Ontario Winter Festival. Top Stingray was Thomas MacMillan with a 2nd place finish in 400 IM - 5:28.55 breaking his own Stingrays record, 3rd in 200 IM - 2:37.12 and 5th place in 200 fly - 2:41.86. Andrew Machan broke the club record in 800 free on his way to a 5th place finish, Megan Wheeler placed 5th in the 400 free, 6th in 200 breaststroke and 8th in the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM, all in best times and David Machan swam a best time in the 200 IM.
