We're off to a great start in the 2013-2014 season. The Spooky Halloween meet was a great opportunity for some of our newly minted Level 1 officials to get deck experience. It was also a chance for our seasoned officials to work in other roles on deck, including Referee, Starter, Chief Timekeeper, Chief Finish Judge, Recorder/Scorer as well as Judge of Stroke and Inspector of Turns. Terrific to see everyone out there!
As we look forward to the Mike Brown Meet January 3-5, 2014 I would encourage you to continue to look at different positions on deck. Please set aside these dates now as this meet represents our biggest fundraiser for the club. We host several clubs from the Eastern Region as well as Gatineau and are known for putting on a solid meet. This is the one obligatory meet we have as a club for our member families. Each swimmer from the club must have an official/volunteer working at the meet in order to swim. As the officials coordinator (along with the hospitality coordinator Lori Thornton) we try very hard to accommodate everyone's needs during the meet. Talk to us if you have any questions, concerns or comments.
Over the months of November and December, I will be running a Level 2 Stroke and Turn clinic as well as a Level 2 Starter clinic at the pool. The Level 2 clinic will have a separate on deck experience with some of our swimmers showing the correct way to do the strokes and execute the turns as well as try and show some of the common errors. This will likely be on a separate day from the clinic itself. If you want to do the S/T clinic online and just come for the demo session, that would be fine. The on-deck session was very well received last year. I think most people found it valuable. There is not an online clinic for Starter. (Stroke and Turn is highly recommended before doing Starter).
In a separate entry, I will be posting the online keys to the OSOA online clinics. They are also posted at the pool.
See you on deck!
