Head Coach Report - May 26, 2014

1st Annual Perth Stingrays Master’s Meet
            60 swimmers took part in the 1st annual Perth Stingrays Master’s Meet.  A great time was had, and done by all involved.  The response from our own swimmers and swimmers from other clubs has been 100% positive.  Future events would likely be as successful.

NKB Festival of Spring – Nepean Sportsplex – May 9 – 11, 2014
26 Stingrays competed in this year’s Festival of Spring.  The meet features afternoon/evening preliminaries and morning finals for the 13 & over swimmers.  A number of recently-turned 13 year-olds experienced their first finals and performed well.  Top 8 swims were turned in by Bailey Andison in 100 & 200 breast (1st); 200 & 400 IM (3rd); 200 free (6th) and 50 free (7th); Owen Baillon in 100 fly (7th); Sarah Bell in 100 fly (7th); Skylar Etherington in 400 free (1st); 50 & 100 fly and 100 back (2nd); 200 back (3rd); and 200 breast (5th); Chloe Fisher in 50 back (6th); Hilary Fournier in 50 breast (6th); Liam Graham in 800 free (5th); Andrew Machan in 100 back (8th); David Machan in 1500 free (5th); 200 back (7th) and 100 back (8th); Rory MacMillan in 800 free (5th) and 200 breast (7th); Thomas MacMillan in 200 & 400 IM and 200 fly (1st); 100 fly (2nd); 200 free (7th) and 100 free (8th); Jonathan Miller in 100 breast (6th) and 200 breast (7th); Lauren Miller in 200 fly and 400 IM (1st); 200 IM (2nd); 100 free and 100 breast (4th); and 100 back (6th); Beth O’Donnell in 800 free (8th); Noah Sullivan in 200 IM (5th); 100 & 200 breast (6th); Lilly Thornton in 50 breast (7th); Megan Wheeler in 100 & 200 breast and 200 IM (1st); 100 back (3rd); 50 free (5th) and 100 free (6th); Courtney Wren in 100 fly (1st); 200 fly (2nd); 200 free (5th) and 200 IM (6th).

Charlotte Grand Prix – Charlotte, North Carolina – May 14 – 19, 2014
            Olivia Ellard was selected to represent Team Ontario at the Arena Grand Prix in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Olivia set a new Stingrays record twice in the 50 backstroke (30.29/heats & 30.11/finals) and also qualified for the “C” final in the 100 backstroke.  Competing against Olympians from a number of different countries was a valuable experience for Olivia and she handled the pressure very well.

KBM Last Chance Qualifier Wind Up Meet – Queen’s University – May 24 – 25, 2014
            17 Stingrays competed at Queen’s University just prior to the entry deadline for this year’s EOSA Long Course Championships.  Official results haven’t been posted yet but some great swims were done at the meet.  Owen Baillon swam a Summer Festival standard in 200 fly with a time of 3:30.18.  Makayla Hopper also swam Regional qualifying swims in 200 fly, 200 back and 200 breast.  Liam Graham qualified for Regionals in the 200 breast also.  Stay tuned for official results.
