There will be a Stroke and Turn clinic this coming Saturday at the pool during team practice (8-9am) in the multipurpose room. Stroke and Turn is one of those positions on deck which many people find daunting. This clinic helps take the mystery out of the role and has the definite upside to helping you understand the strokes your children are swimming. Stroke and Turn is one of my favourite positions on deck. In past years I have done an "on-deck" session with our own swimmers demonstrating the strokes as well as the common errors which can lead to DQs. If there is enough interest I will have that on deck session on Saturday, December 13th during team swim. (You also have the option of doing the clinic on-line and attending only the on-deck session.) I think most past participants would agree that the on-deck component was very helpful visually in understanding the role.
In addition, there will be a Starter clinic on Friday, December 12th from 16:30 to 17:30. The Starter role is a senior deck position and it is strongly suggested that those signing up for this clinic have some Stroke and Turn experience under their belt. There is not an online course for Starter and can only be done in person.
All of these clinics are part of the preparations which have been ongoing for the Mike Brown meet which will be held January 9-11, 2015. There are other deck positions (Chief Timekeeper, Chief Finish Judge, Recorder/Scorer, Clerk of Course etc) where the clinics are online already and pretty straightforward to complete. The "keys" for the clinics may be found at the left side of the blog under "Officials"
To sign up for either clinic or to do any of the online clinics, please go to the OSOA website: www.osoa.ca
As ever, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks, Siobhan
